Hot K-pop group 2NE1 surprise fans at ‘mystery’ gig at Clarke Quay

Popular Korean pop quartet 2NE1 surprised about 2,000 local fans on Friday night when they appeared on a makeshift stage at Clarke Quay to perform five songs.

SingTel, which organised the concert at Read Bridge, had kept the group’s identity a secret until just past 7pm when the four girls popped up on stage.

But some fans had speculated that the performers were 2NE1 when the foursome – Lee Chaerin, 21, better known as CL; lead vocalist Park Bom, 28; vocalist Park Sandara, 27; and rapper Gong Minji, 18, better known as Minzy – were spotted earlier shopping at Marina Bay Sands.

Still, it was a treat to have their suspicions confirmed, said 2NE1 fans.

K-pop group 2NE1 gave a surprise performance in Clarke Quay on Friday night, as part of SingTel’s new brand campaign to celebrate its transformation into a multimedia and infocomm company, and going beyond telco services. The performance could be viewed on giant screens around town such as Knightsbridge, and through their Amazapp mobile app.
