Psy to be honored with ‘Disruptive Innovation Awards’


World sensation Psy has been listed among the 19 recipients of the ‘2013 Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards’.

Disruptive innovation refers to something that helps create a new market and value network, particularly in a way that is unexpected. The ‘Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Awards’ is a yearly show that takes place during the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) in downtown New York.

Recently, TFF has announced that the most disruptive innovations of the past year include South Korean singer Psy for the video of his global hit, “Gangnam Style”. The song not only introduced a whole genre of music to the international mainstream, but also created a global dance craze.

Tribeca Disruptive Innovation website explained why Psy was included in this year’s list of winners saying:
With the first YouTube video to reach 1 billion views, South Korean pop artist Psy has become an ambassador for his country and a leading crossover artist, launching K-pop onto the international stage. His hit song 'Gangnam Style' is more than a catchy tune and dance sequence, it is a cultural phenomenon. It was ranked in the Yale Book of Quotations Top 10 Quotes of the Year.
Meanwhile, other awardees of the year inlcude city planning of Manchester, a book titled “I F*cking Love Science”, Glenn Beck News site, TheBlaze and more.
