World sensation Psy has been selected as the #1 celebrity by Chinese social network service, Weibo, reflecting his unparalleled popularity even in China.

Chinese media outlets reported that the Korean artist was mentioned about 197 million times by Weibo users this year and was selected as the most popular celebrity of 2012.

Psy, who is called “Uncle Bird” by Chinese fans, was the distinctive leader on the list of 2012 Weibo Celebrities. He was followed by Han Geng, a Chinese pop singer and former member of Super Junior, who was mentioned on Twitter more than 75.6 million times.

In October, Psy topped a Chinese online music chart as the popularity of his global hit “Gangnam Style” spilled over into the world’s most populous country. “Gangnam Style” ranked at the No. 3 spot on the 2012 Weibo Hot Issue chart.
