You will automatically feel happy just by looking at them
The one who is responsible for spreading the ‘happy virus’ is Orange Caramel, a group consisting of three members that come from the girl group After School. When they debuted in June 2012 with ‘Magic Girl’, we thought they would be a project group that would only promote once or twice and then stop. But for the last two years, they were able to produced hits like ‘A-ing~♡’, ‘Bangkok City, and ‘Shanghai Romance’ and improve their fanbase.
In addition to that, they’ve become the first girl group sub-unit to release a full album.
▶After School ↔ Orange Caramel, We Get Confused Too!
Orange Caramel became known for their exaggerated cute expressions and outfits that resemble cartoon characters. With the release of their full album ‘Lipstick’, the unique concept of the group continues.
When asked what they think about switching their images from After School’s sexy charisma to Orange Caramel’s concept, Raina laughed as she said, “It’s true that I got confused a lot while promoting ‘Magic Girl’ because the music, choreography and even facial expressions are different from After School’s” and “We once had an event. After standing on stage as an After School member, I had to change my outfit backstage and go back on the same stage as Orange Caramel. After doing that for a couple of times, I’m able to adjust easily now.”
In particular, the most difficult part was the exaggerated facial expressions. Lizzy revealed,
“At first, those facial expressions were embarrassing. But with that experience, I am now confident in at least my facial expressions no matter what stage I’m standing on.”
When asked where their energy to spread ‘happy virus’ come from, Nana said, “All of us is optimistic. I think our enjoyment on stage while singing will be passed on to the people who are watching.”
▶Title Song ‘Lipstick’, The Reaction is Different!
The album’s title song ‘Lipstick’ was made by Iggy, the same composer of Ailee’s ‘Heaven’ and Seo Yongbae. The members said, “The song was easy to sing, so we were able to sing along immediately.” and “We got different reactions from our previous songs. Some liked it while the others did not. But with ‘Lipstick’, most reactions that we are receiving are actually saying that it’s good.
After revealing the stage to be used for ‘Lipstick’ and the choreography of outstretching one leg and pulling it back, the song shows high addictiveness and foreshadows a storm of people following it.
The album also includes solo songs of each member. Lizzy, who is known for having a lively and pleasant image, attempted a surprise reversal with a calm, poetic and emotional ballad entitled ‘Clara’s Dream’ while Raina attempted to rap for the first time through ‘Superwoman’.
Adding on the track list are all Orange Caramel’s existing hit songs, making the album a must-have.
▶We Thought We’d At Least Film a Caramel Ad…
When Orange Caramel came out, there were a lot of talk saying that they had a Japanese girl group feel. But right after releasing a single in Japan in May, most of the reactions that the group received were saying that it was ‘fresh’.
The members are planning to continue promoting actively not only in Korea but also in Japan.
Though Orange Caramel is the most successful of unit groups, there are still two things that they haven’t able to do yet. First, ranking first place on a music chart program and second, being chosen as CF models.
The members raised their voices as they said, “We thought we’d at least film a caramel ad because of our group name but that hasn’t happened yet. By any chance, if there’s a company planning to launch a new orange caramel product, please choose us as models.” They revealed they wanted to relieve the sorrow of not being able to rank first because of an overlap with huge singers with ‘Lipstick.’
Lastly, the girls said, “It’s true that our bodies are tired because of our back-to-back promotions for AfterSchool and Orange Caramel, but since we are the maknaes, we will cheer up and show you a lively image."
