“The Thieves” draws over 4 million moviegoers

Eight days after being released, “The Thieves” has set a box office record of more than four million viewers.

According to Film Council on August 2nd, “The Thieves” has gathered 506,683 moviegoers on August 1st alone with the last counted cumulative attendance at 4,365,090. The movie has set a new record for the shortest time to gather such number of moviegoers.

This is an equal record with 2006 Korean monster film “The Host” and 2011 Hollywood blockbuster “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon,” which both easily attracted over four million moviegoers in just eight days of opening here.

“Despite the fact that the Olympic Games is on, the film is steadily maintaining a top position,” said a spokesperson of the film, adding that “The Thieves” sold more than a million tickets over a two-day stretch.

“The Thieves” tells the story of a group of ten thieves from different backgrounds, who have teamed up to steal a hidden diamond inside a casino in Macao.
