[NEWS] ‘The Thieves’ records 2nd biggest opening in Korea


The movie ‘The Thieves’ starring actors Kim Soo Hyun, Jeon Ji Hyun, Kim Hye Soo, and Lee Jung Jae, has recorded the second best opening in Korean film history.

According to Korean Film Council on the 26th, ‘The Thieves’ has record 436,622 moviegoers on the day of its release on Wednesday, July 25. It has taken the top spot from the movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, which has been reigning for five straight days.

‘The Thieves’ has achieved the best opening ever for a Korean movie. The previous record was set by the movie “The Host” in 2006, which opened with 449,500 tickets sold. The former no.2 is the movie ‘The War’ in 2007, which drew 387,468.

The action movie ‘The Thieves’ tells the story about a group of ten thieves from different backgrounds who have teamed up to steal a diamond hidden inside a casino located in Macao. The big-budget film is supposed to be the Korean version of “Oceans Eleven” and will feature several exotic locations and an all-star cast. The movie is directed by Choi Dong Hoon.
