[NEWS] MBLAQ: Boy band’s first Jakarta concert ‘daeblaq’!

“Only one word, ‘daeblaq’,” said Ghrena Anggayasti, who is an “A+”, or fan of South Korean group MBLAQ (Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality), after their concert on Saturday at Mata Elang International Stadium in North Jakarta.

“Daeblaq” is a combination of daebak, which means awesome in Korean, and MBLAQ.

The group, which kicked off its first Asian concert series, “The BLAQ% Tour”, in Jakarta, left fans in awe despite a few hitches.

The concert started 30 minutes later than the scheduled 7 p.m., and some photojournalists were only allowed to enter the venue after the third song “Try”, or only allowed to take pictures during the first three songs.

However, thousands of MBLAQ’s A+ fans, who filled half of the venue, did not seem to mind the delay and enjoyed the entire performance seeing as how they waved lightsticks and screamed their lungs out during the two-hour show.

After several songs, front man Seung Ho, G.O., Lee Joon, Thunder and Mir greeted their fans and introduced themselves in Indonesian, prompting the audience to scream even louder.

The group later toned down the show with two ballads, followed by a solo performance by G.O., who sang “Cracks of My Broken Heart”.

Thunder also performed solo, singing “Don’t Go” before the entire band appeared on stage and sang the upbeat “No No No” and “Cry”.

And, MBLAQ kept its promise to perform for the first time their single “Wild”, a duet between Mir and G.O. that was just released last week.

Several songs were performed later by the group before a big screen in the center, and two smaller screens to the right and left of the stage, showed Lee Joon starting from him waking up, taking a shower and dressing up in a zebra-motif suit ending with him in an elevator before appearing on stage in the exact same suit.

Joon, who played the teenage Raizo in the US action film Ninja Assassin, then said “I’m looking for my girlfriend” and went down from the stage to select a girl to be brought on stage with him.

One lucky girl with a red headband with Joon’s name penned in the Korean alphabet on it was chosen to be his “girlfriend” while he sang “Nan” (I), a song popularized by noted singer Rain, who established MBLAQ in 2009 under his management company, J. Tune Camp.

During the performance, Joon, who seemed to be aware of his charm, started to take off his shirt and seduce the girl by dancing around her. He also showed off some ballet skills.

The show wrapped up with an encore including “You’re my +”, a new song that was performed for the first time at the Jakarta concert.

“The show was worth all the effort,” said Miranti Komariah, 47, who had been at the venue since 2 p.m.

She said all the MBLAQ members had given their best for the show, which unfortunately had less of an audience than she expected.

“It was supposed to be witnessed by more audience members given the all-out efforts that they put into the show,” she said.
